Homemade Diets Aid Dogs with Digestive Disorders

Research Study Chiang Mai, Thailand, September 20, 2025 – A 2023 study in the Scientific Papers Journal VETERINARY SERIES highlights how personalized homemade diets can help manage digestive disorders in dogs by reducing symptoms and supporting balanced nutrition.

Digestive disorders are among the most common health problems in dogs, with symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, and loss of appetite. Traditional treatments often involve medications, but nutritional modification is an essential part of managing gastrointestinal disease, both to reduce symptoms and prevent recurrence.

In this study, Daina and Macri (2023) developed homemade diet recipes tailored to dogs suffering from digestive disorders. These diets used carefully selected ingredients to ensure nutritional balance while addressing the specific sensitivities of affected dogs. Each recipe was personalized based on the dog’s condition, making the approach adaptable to individual needs.

The findings suggest that homemade diets, when guided by veterinary and nutritional evaluation, may offer an effective alternative or complement to commercial food, particularly for dogs with chronic digestive issues. By reducing stress on the gastrointestinal system and supporting overall health, such diets can improve quality of life for both dogs and their caregivers.

This research reinforces the importance of considering diet as therapy and highlights the potential for homemade, science-based feeding plans to support canine gastrointestinal health.
